Neither side had given themselves a break; Nohr was constantly on offense, Hoshido on defense. There was little to go off of as far as headway is concerned, and with the strength of each other’s army, it felt as if there was an eternal stalemate. Aside from sending smaller troops to each other’s lands, they would be quickly annihilated by dedicated groups of assassins, although that was a detail that none of common ear had the pleasure of hearing.
Very few in Nohr questioned the ideals of the king, none more than Luther Tenebres, young adjunct of the mysterious Black Knight from the Outrealm. He had taken a moment away from his liege to return to Macarath, a place he had actually been whisked away from after his master had… modified the visage of a drunken soldier.
Luther entered the city through a hole in the wall, donning a hooded cloak, with hair dyed to a matte black and dimmed olive eyes watchful of his surroundings. He passed a number of stalls and an old beggar before removing himself from the thoroughfare in leu of a patrol ahead of him. The lad escaped into an alley and checked each corner before he proceeded.
This is what happens when you go absent without leave and come back… I feel like a thief… Alas, there was no original intention to desert Nohr, but the case the Black Knight had made was hard not to ignore.
There was no regret to the meeting, yet to recover good faith from Nohr would be difficult. The complications would further increase due to his want of food and destitute appearance, and the last thing he wanted was to appear before the barracks as a scrounger. Inside of him was his stomach, gnawing and groaning for food, then the heat and pressure present within his head, throbbing with his heartbeat.
Luther had not even a piece of gold as he entered Macarath, only the clothes on his back and the sword, the gift from the Black Knight, of which he could not part with. Whatever he had was spent buying food as he made his way back, and he was not a frivolous spender.
All he could do now is reach the tavern and see if there were any bounties available, and maybe they could take pity on him…
No. Anything but that.
Luther moved further down the back lane before stopping near a stack of crates so he may press against the wall, and hopefully out of sight. He sunk down slowly to sit with his legs kicked out and leaned his head against the rough, grainy surface of the box next to him. He felt his strength waning by the second.
… Why did… I not stay with him…?
The regret of leaving his liege’s side was beginning to set in. What part of this was a good idea?
His eyes began to flutter as his head, even with small resistance, slowly began to limp.

It was just another ordinary day for the witch and her sister. In fact she'd been hoping for some excitement like a battle or news on some rich person visiting some area in the place. But sadly none of that was going on... So walking through the streets with her hands behind her head Marisa would let out a bored sigh. "Oi... How come nothin interestin has been goin on since that tavern for mercs burned down sis.. It's like that place goin away sucked the life outta the town, ze."
Saying this she'd nudge said sister in the side lightly, and waiting to hear what they'd have to say she'd shrug somewhat. However before she can answer them back something, or should she say someone, caught her attention as a cloaked individual could be seen ducking into an alley. So showing a slight grin she'd pat Remitz on the shoulder, giving her a signal to follow along as she'd follow them stealthily... Her leading the way didn't last long though as Remitz would start doing so with a hand on her sword. Deciding it might be best anyway due to her being a magic user Marisa wouldn't comment on it for now. Though later she'd be telling her little sister yet again that the older sister should lead the way in case things are dangerous.
After a bit of this the figure they are following would eventually stop near some crates and lean against them, seemingly to take a break. So bringing a hand up she'd say that they should be quiet as she'd walk quietly over to the man, until getting relatively close to them Marisa would poke them on the shoulder. "Hey, are ya still alive? If not, then say your dead and I'll take the more expensive stuff off ya." Then hearing her sister's comment she'd put a hand on her chin as if to think on that. "... Oh yeah, I spose that's true huh? ..New plan. Nod your head or give us a thumbs down if your dead then, ze~"

"Sometimes times you've got a good thing going and don't know until its gone, dontcha know?" Remitz says, hand resting on the pommel of her sword. "That was kinda the big thing in the local district after all. Once it dried up, maybe it all dried up." She shrugs. "Sad though."
Remitz looks up, watching the cloaked figure with sharp eyes despite her demeanor, giving a quick nod to her sister and taking the lead. She doesn't draw her sword though, peering around the ally corner at the ragged figure. She smiles back to her sister, glad to see that it wasn't a mugger after them.
Remitz looks nervous as they get close to the man, but keeps her trust in her sister. "Wouldn't he not be able to tell us if he was dead?"
They caught him moments before Luther succumbed to his weariness. For a few seconds, he could not tell whether they were addressing him or someone else, or if they were passing by. However, after realizing that someone had come, he looked up and with vision blurred and incapable of making out proper form, their figures had become one person.
“Sir… Black… Knight…” Luther murmured as he began to lean in their direction. His hand reached up feebly, thin fingers quivering, “… My… li… ege…” With a faint exhale, the soldier slumped forward, darkness overtaking his sight. As his body hit the ground, the foreign sword on his hip came loose and slid into their sight.Marisa Kirisameremitz

Not moving for a few seconds during and after the man's response to her question, Marisa wold be silent for a bit looking at his fallen form before looking to Remitz and shrugging. "So... Would that be considered as a yes or a no ta bein dead?" Saying this she'd try to lift his body back into a sitting position, but pretty much failing at doing so, she'd instead opt to pick up his sword and look it over.
Thinking on what he said, she'd soon widen her eyes as recognition would eventually be shown. Not for him or the strange sword. But the name that was given combined with a strange looking sword. "Hey sis. Remember how I said that I went information gatherin a good bit ago so that I can hear bout legends, who's in power, where some people are at and other things like that?" Waiting to hear her answer she'd chuckle lightly. "If this guy does serve the actual mysterious black knight fella I've heard bout. Well since that guy is apparently strong and helps a lot of people... Then we could get paid quite a bit for helping this guy out, ze~"

"Marisaaaa... You're not having us go on some crazy quest are...?" Remitz asks, giving her sister a dubious look. "I don't mind helping out a stranger in need though. He does look pretty sad... I would feel bad about leaving him in the cold." Remitz nudges Luther with a foot, curious to see what he'd do.
"Is this guy really that big a deal?" Remitz sighs, though in truth she kind of wanted to help as well. "Fiiiiine. We'll help! Hey, what's your name again?" Remitz asks, leaning over to look at the bedraggled man.
”Luther, you shouldn’t be sleeping in the snow. Let’s go back home.”
Home? Home, where is that?
”Over here. Just walk toward me. You remember me, don’t you?”
… Mother?
”It’s okay, Luther. Please, come home.”
… No. I’m sorry, Mother, I can’t. I can’t yet. There’s too much… too much that I need to uncover. To go home now would answer no questions as to why things are the way they are…
”… You feel unfulfilled. In that case, go ahead and find out those things. We’ll be waiting for you at the end of the road. Godspeed, my child.”
Thank you, Mother…
Thump.
The tap to his body caused his body to twitch. A meager amount of strength had returned to him, and his eyes opened halfway. The forms that had made up the singular figure had separated clearly, his vision resolving that there were indeed two women next to him. One with blonde hair and a wide-brimmed hat, the other with a brown hair and a long ponytail. They were dressed uniquely for a town like Macarath, and the only feeling he could grasp at the moment was when he met the Black Knight for the first time.
A question had been posed to him by the woman with the ponytail. One for his identity.
“… L… ugh,” he coughed, “… Luther…” His eyes swapped between their faces with slight movements, “… Who… who are you?”Marisa Kirisameremitz

"From what I've heard they seem like a somewhat big deal. I mean apparently the Norhians are wantin to kill or get em to join their side. And the Hoshidans are wantin to ask for his help." With that said she'd shrug lightly and grin. "Now that's what I'm talkin about~ I'm sure we-" Noticing that Luther is waking up she'd stop and would back up somewhat from him.
"Hey it seems like your awake now! Also the names Marisa Kirisame~ I'm a wanderin witch from afar, and this is my sister-" Stopping herself from finishing naming her sister, she'd then gesture to them with a grin and a slight flourish. Then once her sisters name is said she'd reach into her hat and would literally pull out a loaf of bread wrapped in some cloth. "Anyways I heard ya mention a guy right before ya did a slight pass out. So I've decided to help ya out a bit since I mostly know my way safely round the place~ Also you look kinda hungry, so do ya want some of this?"

Remitz gives a flourishing bow as her sister points to her. "Remitz Kirisame, at your service! There are better places to take a nap then on the ground, y'know."
Remitz brightens as her sister mentions food, digging around in her pack before turning back with a loaf of bread. She offers it to Luther, grinning. "This oughta get you on your feet! You'll need more before long though. Marisa, any good places to eat around here?"
"I want to check on my pegasus too. She needs to eat as well, after that flight."
Luther traded slow glances between them as they introduced theirselves and pressed his eyes closed briefly as if suppressing a headache.
... What is this... blithe they are going about with? Clearly they are not from this country...
Upon opening his eyes again, there was produced two loaves of bread. His stomach immediately reacted with great churning and groaning, and what saliva could be procured in the moment besides his dehydration had rushed into his mouth. Whether they were fresh or stale was out of the question, and as for his pride as a Nohrian soldier, there was just no logic in starving to death if salvation was presented to him.
Luther reached up with both hands, noticeably thin, and grasped the crusts, tearing into their rubbery shells and pulling away. Like an emaciated wolf feasting upon fresh game, he tore into the soft flesh of the bread, messily consuming every bit he could until he bit his finger.
Ah, that’s it, I suppose.
With the bread now processing in his needy stomach, Luther felt his strength steadily returning. He shakily rose back to his feet, but kept his lean against the wall behind him.
“Thank you,” he sighed with a sluggish bow of his head, “I apologize for the weakness I have displayed before you.”Marisa Kirisameremitz
Remitz watches him eat, before abruptly glancing to her sister. as though something had just occurred to her. "Marisa... how fresh was that loaf you just gave him? We haven't gotten any new bread for awhile, and I was holding onto to what was left of the last batch."
The pegasus knight looks back to Luther, leaning over to pat him on the head. "Don't worry about a thing! Everyone has a bad day sometimes! And it looks like you've been through a lot, so you should take pride in the fact that you're still kicking!"

At her sisters question she'd bring a hand to her chin as if in deep thought. "If I remember correctly... That was from two batches before the current one ya have sis~" With that said she'd grin and give a thumbs up as if it's perfectly normal to eat, on that note the bread from marisa would be pretty stale but still edible, while the one from Remitz was pretty soft.
Then looking to Luther she'd just give her usual grin. "Hey it's not a problem, ze! After all, ya should see me or my sister whenever we're hungry~" Chuckling lightly she'd then gesture to him. "Anyways, what brings a place like this to a person like you? ... I think that's how the sayin went?" Shrugging somewhat she'd sit down and lean against one of the alley walls before starting to whistle a tune. Apparently now having her sister lead the conversation, either cause she got bored of doing so already, or just cause she felt like doing so since she seems to have things pretty well covered.

The freshness of the bread did not matter, especially to a soldier who had eaten very little in the past few days. To be on the brink of death due to starvation and to think “I wish this loaf was fresher” was a richer man’s quarrel.
“Yes, well, thank you. Again,” Luther repeated with added monotony, and his head turned toward the breezeway opening.
Right, he was here with a purpose. It was a miracle that anyone had managed to find him where he was, so it must be the case that he had to reconcile with the barracks.
Luther cleared his parched throat and steadily approached the alley’s edge, glancing out into the open street with caution. This way was clear of soldiers, yet that way was not. A two man patrol, except they were not anyone he recognized.
He glanced over his shoulder to the two ladies behind him.
… They’re noisy and wearing foreign clothes. If they travel with me, they’ll attract attention…
Yet he squinted as a second realization came to mind.
… But if they do, I can slip into the barracks without being noticed…
“Listen,” he said as he leaned against the wooden crates, “I am on a quiet errand to the barracks. I am a soldier seeking to win back the favor of Nohr.” His head lowered, “I confess that I had gone absent without proper notification to my commanding officers, but…” He stopped himself short after an obvious and rather distressing revelation crashed into his mind.
“I need a very, very good reason why I left in the first place, and I can’t—cannot think of anything.” The lad plopped back onto the ground and grabbed his head as if probing at his brain, “… This half-starved muddled mind of mine… I have done all the thinking I could along the way and nothing of satisfactory result.”Marisa Kirisameremitz
