Izumo Starring Crow Arkwright and Mitsuko Nakajima Early Evening-Sunset.
After a day of extensive shopping it was time for Mitsuko to find a place where she could have a bite. That bath she had in the morning gave her quite a boost in energy, so much so she had skipped lunch entirely. Before she could go find a nice restaurant to have dinner she would have to get rid of all the bags she was carrying so she stopped by the inn to leave all the baggage in the room which she was renting.
Now that all the shopping was taken care off she could afford to spend the last day she had in her vacation just being lazy. Maybe she could go to the theater later. Before taking care of feeding her own hunger she took a sack full of carrots meant for her Pegasus resting at the nearby stable.
" Nice to see you're behaving. Take a good well deserved break my friend because we're leaving soon enough. " After feeding Kurogane a couple of said carrots she left the whole sack from him there, paying the stable master for taking care of her companion.

Izumo. Hot spring country, pinnacle of luxury and fine dining for common folk. Nobody here minds the war, in fact this place was known for its neutrality.
Heck, he may as well stay here after this job is over.
The employers didn't give specifics. Just a rogue Hoshidan flier who potentially leaked secrets to Nohr. Get it done and over with the old fashioned way, hands dirty, no questions asked. It was just one woman.
Of course, that was the big issue here. He never killed women. It wasn't his style, and he didn't care if they were government spies. People who did that have a third of a brain with the other two-thirds complete muscle.
So... how would he get creative with this mark? He mulled over it as he flew to the border and rode into town.
"Whoa," he spoke as he took a good look around, "Robes everywhere."
This was Izumo alright. Seems like there wasn't much shame in walking around in a bathrobe. Culture and all that stuff.
"Let's find you a stable," spoke the mercenary to his ebony pegasus. He procured information on the location of the stable, then proceeded forth to one. The man alighted his horse, then led her inside. "'Scuze me," said the rider to the stable master, "Lodging for this one. How much?"
"Ten pieces a night," was the response.
"Right."
The man glanced over into the stable. There was a bit of a menagerie here! Wyverns, regular horses, the obligatory black pegasus, some of those bird creatures that yumi-users rode...
Oh, there was another black pegasus here? Aside from his own, the last one he saw was back in Cykrensia during a bounty hunt. The employers did say that the mark rode a black pegasus like he did...
Shoot. Did he find her already? He couldn't have.
The mercenary wandered away from his pegasus briefly, then spotted a somewhat familiar face.
"... Hey," he said with a furrowed brow to the young woman, "... I remember you." Mitsuko
Before Mitsuko could walk out of the stable she stumbled upon that scruffy looking Mercenary she'd meet a while back while doing a bounty for the King. At first she thought nothing of it because weirder coincidences had happened previously, yet there was something in his eyes which made her wary.
Crow didn't strike her as the type to make rash decisions but seeing him here staring back at her was a slight cause for concern, particularly the way he coldly looked at her.
" I must say, your Social skills are quite impeccable. Is that how you approach all the young ladies?" There was a not so subtle hint of sarcasm in her words. Whenever she felt threatened Mitsuko was even more snarky than usual
" Likewise. Are you here on a business or a pleasure trip, Mister? " While Mitsuko wasn't the type to carry around hidden weapons she paid close attention to whatever movements Crow made with his hands.
Even unarmed at this point she wasn't exactly defenseless. That being said in a straight up confrontation she wouldn't be much trouble if he could get close enough to subdue her. He was taller and likely weighed much more which put the Hoshidan at a clear disadvantage.
Crow scratched the back of his head, "Well... I guess there ain't much of an excuse for bad manners... pardon me." He cleared her throat and slid his hands in his pockets, "But, uh, maybe you and me should talk. I just wanna ask you a few questions." He raised his hands and waved them, "Erm, well, in a more private place, if you don't mind." His head motioned to the stable master as he brought his pegasus into a stable. "Just a moment of your time, that's all."
" I was thinking about going to the theater after dinner. " Since Crow was already here she figured it wouldn't hurt to ' invite' him to have some dinner together, not because she was particularly fond of him but because out in public he would be less likely to attempt an overly aggressive move on her.
Mitsuko could only speculate about what he wanted to talk about but it seemed urgent so she walked out of the stable alongside him. Before she could even attempt to make her next move she needed to know what type of business he had with her.
Finding a table took them no longer than ten minutes. For obvious reason she handpicked the establishment with easy ways in and out and with a good amount of people to make a ruckus in case things went sour. In a straight up fight she wasn't as strong so she needed to make up for it by outsmarting and outmaneuvering him in case push came to shove.
Surprisingly enough this was a western inspired establishment so tables and seats where provided to the clientele. She picked a booth right by the entrance and facing the door in case he had company waiting outside.
" I'd like some tea, please. " She ordered to the waitress that arrived to take their orders.
" Now then i'd like to listen to whatever you have to say, certainly you didn't came here to tell me how good I look with this new hairstyle." Mitsuko was not usually a very vane girl, in fact this was her trying to get her stoic companion to share whatever information he had with her whether he intended it or not.

Well, at the least they didn't come to blows. A dinner was a nice alternative than an alleyway... but would this be alright? He didn't plan how he would deal with this situation, thus he had to take everything in stride.
After having sat down, Crow nodded to the waitress, "Same."
The mercenary folded his arms and cleared his throat before taking a good look at her.
"Nice haircut" was the first thing that came to mind. Women in this day and age never really opted for that type of hairstyle unless they were in the military. He remembered an old comrade of his also chose to keep her hair short during combat.
... That haircut really suited her though. It would be a sin not to say anything about it.
"Well," the mercenary shrugged his shoulders, "I mean... your hair does look pretty good. Pretty sure if I were you, I would've done the same thing." He sniffed as his eyes squinted, "... Say, the right side of your bangs is two millimeters higher than the left. Might want to look into that next time you're standing in front of a mirror." His throat cleared as he realized he went off tangent. "Ah-hem, er... not that I mean to embarrass you. Just, uh, just keep that in mind."
He slammed his fist on his leg in mild frustration. Get to the point!
"Right..." he let out a sigh with a hushed tone, "You probably won't like what I have to say, but I gotta say it anyway. Look... from one merc to another..." his hands raised emphatically in the air before placing them back on his lap, "... You're marked. They want you pushing up daisies by the end of today." Mitsuko
" I've been on their shit list for a while now. It was only a matter of time before they would send someone my way, especially after conducting hit and runs all over their rear lines." At a time like this Mitsuko really couldn't claim that her deeds where righteous. Her last adventure hadn't gone unnoticed and the Hoshidan's where not above employing hitmen moving on the same circes as hers.
" Why are you telling me this? You seriously don't expect me to go with you willingly, do you? " Crow's honesty was startling to say the least, so much so she completely forgot his criticism about her asymmetrical hair cut. Truth to be told she'd simply sliced it up wit a knife prior to an infiltration.
" ... What if .. " She paused for a moment, closing her eyes and breathing deeply to re-think her choice of words. "... What if I make you a better offer? Money of course, unless you have another method of payment in mind. " Since Crow was in a talking mood she figured it was possible to end this stand off by being diplomatic.
"Lady," Crow shook his head and leaned on his leg, "I'm telling you to be careful. I'm not some autonomous lackey that does whatever people say. I'm a merc with a beating heart and working brain, feel me?"
"Your tea." The waitress placed the cups down on the table.
"Thanks," the fellow replied as his pale hands wrapped around the warm cup. He took a quick sip of the drink and squinted, "... Listen... they might go after both of us in the case that I don't do my job, so... next time you come across some ornery folk, don't say I didn't warn you." His eye took one glance over to the waitress as she left them, then smacked his lips.
"... Don't drink the tea, by the way." One may notice that a part of his lips had turned a different shade of color, yet his expression remained stoic.
" I appreciate your concern. " This time there wasn't any lingering sarcasm in Mitsuko's words. It would be difficult for her to truly believe he was not interested in hunting her down. Soon those doubts evaporated from her mind hen she noticed the effect that poisoned tea had on him. ' Dammit! who could it be?' Whoever had put a bounty on her head certainly made sure to hire some unscrupulous people if they where already resorting to this type of attempts.
Immediately she glanced at the waitress who had brought this, not surprisingly she'd vanished out of sight after handing them their drinks so it was likely she was the culprit.
" I hope you have some antidote on your own because I don't have carry any with me. " Without a care in the world she picked up the cup and spilled it on the floor outside the boot to make certain no one would drink it by accident. She searched her pockets for some coin t pay for the drinks and went straight for the door.
There was no point in staying in Izumo for much longer, not when that ensured she would have any assassin from Cyrkensia to Shirasagi coming straight at her. She needed to find someplace safe and quickly. Since someone was most likely keeping an eye on them she opted for not uttering a word, assuming Crow would follow her back to the stables.

"Pft, antidote..." Crow grunted as he wiped his mouth, "I just had a little. It won't affect me none." Since Mitsuko paid for their bad tea, the mercenary followed her out. Whether she liked it or not, they were now partners in crime.
As they moved down the street, Crow's eye looked about vigilantly. There was a shift in the air.
Suddenly, the mercenary wrapped his arm around her shoulders and redirected them into a larger crowd. "Blend in," he said in a hushed tone, "We've got ninjas, I'm sure. Let's split up, and I'll meet you by the stables." Without a second to spare, he donned a hood and moved through the crowd quickly, effectively causing a diversion of attention. Two shadows locked in and began moving across the roofs silently. Mitsuko
" Of course they are! I'll be damned ... " Before Mitsuko could turn to face their likely attackers she was shoved into a multitude of tourists doing a tour around Izumo's commercial district. At a time like this her short stature was a bit of a blessing since she could use some of these people to break line of sight with the attackers. Crow had decided to play decoy and she wondered how was that going to work out.
This wasn't the time to stop and think, however so se was forced to think on her feet once again. " And I thought I came here to finally catch a break! Just my luck. " She kept whining, dodging people along the way and sticking to the main streets. Knowing her luck the second she got into an alley it would be like walking into a likely ambush.
It took Mitsuko a little longer than expected but she managed to make it back to the stables in the nick of time. " You can keep the money, old man. Just let me take my Pegasus out of here." While the stable hand opened the gate she ran up to Kurogane who was getting awfuly close to Crow's black Pegasus. Apparently his mount was a lady.
I hate to cut your fun short you two but we need to get out of town. " In a hurry Mitsuko put the saddle blanket over her Pegasus back, adjusting the saddle seat shortly afterwards. Since she'd predicted Crow would be here in a rush she decided to go on ahead and prepare Heckle for take off as well.
Crow emerged from a nearby alley with a spring in his step and his back bent like a twig in a bluster. His shoulders were pierced with metal stars, and his cape hung low from the weights of Hoshidan kunai.
Upon seeing the other woman with both their horses prepared, Crow let out a sharp whistle to call Heckle to himself, then mounted upon her as she drew near.
"Ride!" Crow exclaimed to Mitsuko as his horse tore down the open road, "We ride for Sagesse!"
Darn, he really would've liked to visit those hot springs. Perhaps a few years and he'll be able to come back. Mitsuko
" Here's something that might make it worthwhile for you. " Even in a hurry Mitsuko figured she could at least be polite and pay the stable hand a little extra cash as an apology for the ruckus they might have caused. When Crow whistled half of the beasts of burden turned towards the source of that sharp, whistling noise.
Even in her haste to get on the saddle Mitsuko could clearly see a few shurikens sticking out of her partner in crime's back. He didn't seemed to be in much pain so he was probably wearing something underneath to keep the throwing weapons from causing any real injury.
" Let's get going then! " Notre Sagesse was at least a day and half away and that's if they hurried up using the most direct route. At this point going into Hoshido would be like putting a bullseye on her back so she was willing to take her chances going somewhere where people might not expect her to be.
Kurogane began sprinting to the exit as soon as its rider sat firmly on the saddle, giving it a gentle punt on the sides to signal him it was time to leave. " Crap! That was a close one." It had all happened to quickly. If Crow hadn't showed up Mitsuko would have probably meet an early demise at the hand of those stealthy assassins. The moment they where out of the stable Mitsuko gave kurogane the order to take flight, following after the other black rider as they headed North.
Their mounts where starting to blend in with the dark skies above. Fortunately for them the moon wasn't particularly bright yet as the day transitioned from dusk to night.

The moment they took flight, their pursuers had officially failed. Crow looked back to see the assassins standing there with piercing glares, only to watch him shrug his shoulders emphatically.
"Heh," Crow chuckled, "You owe me one, that much is certain." He pulled his left arm back to reach for the steel embedded in his shoulder pads, "Anyway, this ain't my first rodeo with foregoing proper contracts and stuff... ehh... but I guess that's why I don't have any allegiances with either country." His fingers wrestled another piece free and threw it over his shoulder, "Sigh... they paid me up front with that job to take care of any expenses. Dang... I'm a bad mercenary."
The man let out a deep sigh as he leaned against a backrest on Heckle's saddle and tugged the side of his hood into his chest plate. Mitsuko
" Name your price! I'm not the type that forgets any debts or favors I might owe. However the one thing I cant give you in exchange is my life." Mitsuko shouted those words as soon as Kurogane gained up more speed and was able to fly relatively closer to the other rider. Up here the wind blew in all possible directions, scattering their words all around.
" There's a reason I never charge money up front. I'd rather be paid once a job is all done." Mitsuko work ethics never allowed her to get in over her head. Mercenary work was far from clean and mistakes where often fatal. Now that she thought about it was strange to hear of a mercenary company that paid in advance. Not even the kings favorite troublemakers where given money up front.
At some point the two of them would have to stop somewhere. Neither of their pegasus could exactly fly all night long without a break or two and the closest village in this direction was a more than a couple of hours away. Mitsuko was also worried about visibility matters. Even if their sight was a bit better than their land based cousins a Pegasus couldn't exactly see in the pitch blackness of the night.
If the moon was particularly light, on the other hand then they could be more easily spotted from the ground and that was far from desirable in this situation. Eve if they had lost their captors for the time being there was no telling how many more people where sent after them.
