A crawling distaste for her attitude crept along his back. Grant held disdain for people who were willing to put others through rough times, but to him she was not that much better on his own subjective moral scale. The feeling he had was unreasonable and he knew certainly of it being as such, thus he discarded it. He decided that there was a much better light in aiding her instead of putting her down even more.
“As do I, Miss Lisette.” He announced, lifting a single palm upwards. “However, wishing is not a particularly effective way of obtaining what you desire.” The butler sighed lightly as he began a slow march around the tree. “Often times, the most powerful people need not be powerful mages or a courageous warriors to succeed in life.”
He placed the tips of his fingers on the bark of the tree. “Instead, they win by manipulating those around them.” Grant looked at his hand before dusting the dirt off it. “And when the situation seems like it is at it’s bleakest to you- that is when it all ends.” His monologue continued. “The reason being that you, the player in their game, had given up all hope on yourself- you have forfeited yourself to an eternity as a pawn.”
Grant stood before her once more, the side of his gaze would meet his own cold stare. “The few lines from the perspective of an oppressor- as I remember it.” He needed his message for her to be clear. Simply toughing through something would not work. She needed to push herself and to get her to do so, he in turn needed to get her to see the light of it.
Dimwitted as the taguel may be, she failed to register everything the man had meant. Her mind tried to comprehend it, or something of the like... Was he saying that she should start manipulating people? She could doubtfully manipulate a mere child. Or was he saying to keep pushing through?
As he kept talking, she nodded her head, trying not to look completely lost at the monologue. "Oh... Okay gotcha!" She had a bit of falsified enthusiasm in her voice, uncertainty also mingled in. She looked off to the side, and sighed, her ineptitude gnawed at her, as she pushed to her feet, and glanced off in the distance.
"Sorry, I'm being a real bother aren't I?" Her voice spoke awkwardly, she couldn't help but feel her idiocy was rather clear.
Little by little, he could provoke progress for her. She did not seem to understand his message completely, he noticed. The response he received was unexpected, but still on the list of outcomes he perceived to be likely. He knelt down to get on eye level with her. To speak as an equal often would alleviate some of one’s troubles.
“The answer would be ‘no’, Miss Lisette.” The butler’s tone resonated with determination despite his volume being low. “And my main message for you is to not only keep living, but to also push yourself for yourself.”
He nodded lightly. "No one except you can help your situation improve."
The last words he said, sent a tinge of pain through her. She had tried to improve her life, she really had... Just, it wasn't easy. Sometimes there were things outside of her own control, and she still didn't have a clue how to rid herself of the everlasting paranoia, that clung to her always.
Snapping free from her thoughts, she let out a sigh. "I... I can try, I guess..." She mumbled, as she shook her head lightly.
“You can try, you suppose,” the butler echoed after her.
No pity for the lass or remorse for his previous words were felt by him. Instead, an imposing sense of familiarity weighed down on him. A feeling of empathy. No matter how much effort he made on his own part to become stronger or help people, he always felt that he could be performing even better.
He realised that she could not help herself- that perhaps not all people are capable of breaking the cycle that they were in through sheer will alone. Strange he found it. She was suffering from a problem similar to his own, yet her character did not enable her to break free. Unlike him.
“Then I shall aid you in your efforts, Miss Lisette.” He offered a gloved hand to her. “That is, if you will allow me.”
The first words to escape his mouth, made her freeze. Her spirit sunk, it was clear to her that he was right. She honestly didn't know the first thing about how to well... Be happy? To stop assuming she was hated by all, even the people who had been kind to her. It was strange to her, that someone would care, it made her feel like a burden if she was being honest.
As his hand presented itself to her, she broke out of her thoughts, as she took a moment to register his words. Did he expect her to grab his hand? She had an urge to try to convince out of being willing to help her, but she awkwardly grabbed at his hand. "Alright..." She mumbled, her voice somewhat quiet.
With her hand in his, Grant slowly lifted the lady to her feet. There was not one simple solution to the problems that she might have faced, but there was one idea that he had in store and it was perfect to give her a fresh start. A new chapter in life. The butler found the notion of it greatly pleasant.
“Now, Miss Lisette,” he began to talk in a composed voice once more. “It would be a lie of omission to exclude telling you that I passed by a certain boutique owned by a Taguel whilst in Cyrkensia.” Despite being spoken in prose, his words were understandable. “I will assume it if of your ownership and thus make you an offer that you might never receive in your life again.”
A palm raised to place on his chest over where his heart would be.
“I shall give you the opportunity to move to a rather pleasant village in Hoshido at the cost of nothing.” The young man’s intent stood true, though he was unsure if she would accept such an outrageous proposal. “Furthermore, I shall sponsor your business by supplying exotic materials such as hides, fur and jewellery that I may find.”
The pinkette listened carefully, as he spoke. What he said was a bit shocking, she half doubted that any of what he said was done in all seriousness. Lisette wasn't that good at assuming people genuinely wanted to be nice to her, due to a lot of her youth. The cost of nothing? That seemed rather impossible, but one little thing he said, caused her to think more on it.
"Is this a serious offer...?" She asked nervously, looking around a bit. Honestly, she had no real ties to Cyrkensia, if she thought about it. The crowded atmosphere always had felt suffocating to her, but the thought of leaving, never really crossed her mind. It felt like something that needed a lot of thought, if she was being honest. "I-If so do you need an answer right now?"
“As serious as I can possibly make it seem,” Grant replied as he crossed his arms. “Though I am able to understand that you might think of it as being otherwise.” Truth be told, just about any other sane individual would take such an offer as a scam or a joke. How often do people show up only to give someone a chance at a better lifestyle with absolutely no strings attached?
“And to your second question,” he held up one of his two index fingers. “I say no- you need not answer at this very moment.” The butler shook his head. One life changing decision needed to be pondered upon carefully. He respected that much. “I shall not ask you to make haste in picking your choice.”
Arms back down to his sides, he began to turn away from Lisette to look at the horizon. “Rash decisions depend on luck. I am not a purveyor of anything to do with the sort.”
He was serious? Such a thing legitimately shocked her, as her head tilted downward, and she pondered such a strange thing. What if he wasn't serious and he-... No... She wasn't going to do that now. Being paranoid about meaningless things never helped her before, and it wouldn't help now.
Refocusing on what he said next, she looked back up at the man, letting out a sigh in relief. She was uncertain about a lot of things, and she wanted to be careful here. "That's a relief. Haha... I don't think I could answer something like that so quickly.." she said, folding her arms behind her back, then lowering them again. She wasn't that smart to begin with, and so she had about one person she knew she needed to consult about this.
Lisette was tempted to ask questions, but she didn't, feeling she'd just come off as stupid. There was but one question she allowed herself to ask. "How do I contact you, after I decide?" She asked.
