Northella worked quickly to bring out another cart with the dolls.
"Here we are, boss," she said with a small bow.
West clapped his hands together in quiet glee and sat one of the boxes up. Already, the quality of the doll was even better than the ones that they were looking at earlier.
"So..." the elf grinned, "One of these beauties fetches a price at 1500 gold on the regular market. The artist who did these is renowned throughout his entire country for his marvelous works! They are known to be perfectly durable and even children can play with them if they are handled well!" He crossed his arms, "This time, my first price is up at 1200 G!" Asinine
Asinine seemed to perk up ever so slightly as he mentioned the ability to play with the dolls, after all, he was the kind to play with dolls, strangely as it was for a man, and even more so and adult man to play with dolls. For this, he actually seemed moreso to desire to get two of them, seeing how much nicer they appeared than the prior ones.
However, he had to be careful, if he set his price too low, the man may just refuse to do business with him, on account of his stinginess, so Asinine was going to have to be careful.
"It doesn't look all too special, how about 750?" He stated ever so plainly, if he showed doubt, then most likely this man would take advantage of it, at least that was his assumption.
"Now, now, 750 is too incredibly low for a doll of this kind," West shook his finger and his head in disappointment, "Already I thought I was doing you a service by giving it to you for 300 gold less! Shame on you, sir. Merchants would never sell a client short for his hard labor!" Once more he folded his arms and cocked his head to the side, "1200 G. What is your offer now, good sir?"
Asinine sighed, this was getting annoying he knew this man was lying if he stated that the thing wouldn't go for lower than 1500, and he was selling for 1200... However, he also was well aware of the fact that if he didn't rise his price, the man would likely state something like he wouldn't do business, unless Asinine paid more than the initial offer, for insulting the client so.
He didn't get it, why tell him to try to buy it for lower, when he acted as though he wanted his simple price.
"Hmm... How about 850?" He stated oh so simply, as he glanced away for a moment, then back. He really hoped the man would just make this easy for him, or something like that.
850 G for a doll his client had placed for 1500 G. Greaaaat.
This kid really can't barter, can he? He's seen children who can weave around prices like a snake on a tree, but... this kid. As a noble, he knows nothing about bartering... probably has his nose stuck up some other business to even care about business.
Or maybe it was West's problem? Maybe he had neglected to NOT speak of the original price of the product? An error on his end, if that was the case.
Either way, this kid always shot for a very low price from the get-go. That was a problem.
With a deep, dissatisfied sigh, West shook his head, "... You know, with a price like that, I don't think I'll be receiving anymore dolls to sell from that client." However, he put his hands on his hips, "But maybe that should be so! Maybe he is overpricing his work because he's some snooty, stuck-up artist who likes to make bank off his work. EITHER WAY, I'll accept your price of 850 gold." He lifted his hand to the cart with the dolls, "Go on, pick a doll or two." He slid his hands in his coat pockets and wandered toward Northella.
"Gave up?" she mumbled.
"... Some people can't barter," he whispered back. Asinine
Asinine at first was slightly pleased, until he heard the mention of the fact that he wouldn't receive anymore dolls from such a supplier. Asinine's eyes closed, as he let out a sigh. "How about I pay 1000 gold each, do you think you'd be able to keep your client?" He stated plainly, his eyes blinking back open in annoyance.
After all, if this man stopped selling good quality dolls... Well let's just say Asinine would be very displeased. He was tempted to just buy one for the initial price, and one for the cheaper price. It was the merchants fault for telling him to barter. "If you aren't wanting to sell these things for cheaper, why do you insist I try bartering with you? I'd rather buy for the initial price, and then bring more gold next time I hear where you're located."
This was really such an unpleasant thing. Asinine regretted not bringing more gold with him, usually that was at least enough to buy whatever he saw on a whim to buy.
West twisted himself around and walked up the the boy, "No, no! You don't seem to understand, my good sir!" He wiggled a finger in the air, "You see... I can come up with ALL the excuses in the world, but in the end of it all, I just want a good bargain on my end, don't I? But oh, it's no fun if I don't make you try to work for a good price. 1000 gold each, you said?" His mocking smile returned to his face, "I couldn't have it any other way!" He pulled his bell out of his pocket and wrung it.
"500 gold cut! That's a bargain for something this high quality!" West exclaimed with a cheerful smile, "And you can even buy two! Everyone is happy!"
Northella stared blankly from where she stood. Has he lost his nut this time? Clearly he just tried to just achieve his own end... Asinine
Asinine rolled his eyes, this man was strange, strange indeed. Asinine held out the gold once again. "So can we be done now?" He stated rather bluntly, as his glance was focused upon the dolls. As he stated this his servant was seen in the distance, coming over with another person. Clearly the young man was intending to lazily make someone else carry things for him.
He rolled a bit closer to look at the dolls, before pointing at two of them. "I'd like those two."
Nobles. Never the most sociably intelligent, were they...
"Yes, we're done. All sales are final!" announced the elf with nod. He retrieved the gold sack, and then the two dolls that the boy pointed out. Next, he plopped them into the hands of the servants, "Be careful, now! Your master worked very hard to get these for a reasonable price!" He didn't doubt their abilities, of course.
Considering that their work was done, Northella came forward, took the gold sack from the elf, and rolled the cart of dolls back to the rear of their caravan vehicle to store them.
"Thank you for your business, sir!" West grinned, he bowed low with a small twirl of his arm toward his abdomen, "I look forward to the next time we meet... and hopefully by that time you've learned to be a better expert at dancing with bargains!" His smiling eyes appeared to open a slit, giving him a droll smile along with it. Asinine
As the dolls were received by the young man's servants, his usual emotionless expression seemed to slightly brighten, as his lips curved ever so slightly upward, yet of course, it wasn't large enough to be considered a smile... And it was hard to notice.
"I certainly hope I get a chance to stop by in the future." He stated ever so plainly, "Where does your schedule most commonly take you?" The young man casually asked, he definitely had a desire to buy from this man again in the future, regardless of the annoyance that was bartering.
Honestly, he'd be totally fine shoving money in the man's face, but apparently he was going to have to learn to barter... Or hire someone to barter for him... That could actually be wiser...
"Hmmmm? Well, I typically circulate my business throughout Nohr, from north to south. I have connections in Hoshido that send merchandise my way for a profit, as well," the elf said with his hands in his pockets, "Fuhoho, I'm one of the few traders who manages this. Given the tumultuous situation of the two kingdoms, most trade has dried up between them." With another dry smile, he added, "I have no allegiances. I am simply a man who's in it to profit. Give or take, noble of Nohr. That's the way the world works."
West crossed his long fingers together, "... Given that tome you have with you... I suspect you are a mage as well?" His head dipped slightly, "... If you ever have need of more... fascinating material for your research, I am more than willing to offer more... interesting subject matter for you..."
Suddenly, as quick as a wit, his head was by the boy's ear, and spoke in a hushed tone, "... Simply say, 'dragon's heart' to the fancy door in the underground of Windmire, and I shall see to you." The next instant, he stood away from him, "I look forward to seeing you soon!" Asinine
As the man went on, Asinine's attention was somewhat void, except for anything that concerned him. So put simply, the man had a tendency to be in Nohr, he had more items that could be useful to a scholar such as Asinine, and he's in Windmore, with Dragon's Heart being a code word. Asinine was a tad bit upset, if this man had items for him to research, that would force him to have an obligation to go there, and buy such things.
"I suppose my father would have me come back for research purposes in that case... After all the Eisle family seeks wisdom of all nature of things in this world..." He stated boredly, before starting to roll away. "Unfortunate..."
One of his servants rolling him away, he glanced back. "I'll stop by sometime..."
"Yes, please do!" West smiled, he gave a little wave, "When we ask what you keep in a big jar, let me know!"
With that, the elf passed him a surreptitious grin, then turned to see to his shop. Northella had leaned herself against the side of the shop.
"He sure gave you trouble, eh?" she snickered as he propped up beside her.
The elf shrugged his shoulders, "Nobles, my dear. They are the most droll and unimaginative creatures to ever grace this earth. I'm sure you've worked with a few in your life as a mercenary?"
"Yes. I hated it."
"Hehe, in comparison, do you like me better? Hmmmmm?"
"Huh? Uh... well... it's... it's alright, I guess... I mean, you're... you're alright."
