Stitch Right On In A Closed rp with Lisette and Mai
"Okay sir, have a nice day~!"
Lisette chirped out with a cheery wave, to the customer she just helped, the only sound reciprocated, seemed to be a mutter, as the older man exited the little shop. Swiping at her forehead in exhaustion, she scanned the rest of the shop, it was pretty empty around right about now... But that makes sense.
After all, while the city was crowded, there were many more notable locations than a cute little shop like this. Regardless Lisette kept a smile on her face, as she glanced over at some of her fabric, still at the sewing station. Walking over, she quietly sat down, keeping an eye on the door. As soon as anyone entered, she'd put her business face right on. However at the moment, she tried to put more focus on sewing, repeating the same motions consistently, her execution was near flawless... Such simple stitches, were able to be done with ease, and thus, the girl began to zone out a bit.
She really couldn't wait to get home, and finish reading her latest novel. She never really could tell how this author would finish things off, but she certainly hoped that there'd be a happily ever after.
A relatively young woman dressed in a floral kimono was seated on a bench, her eyes glued to a spot on her leg where her hand was laid. Beneath her hand was the most disdainful and horrible thing anything could ever happen: a tear in the seams of an expensive kimono. Well, when one hears “tear,” it sounds like a complete rending of clothing by force. Fortunately for the maiden, the cloth simply came… unseamed, if the word was correct. She had fallen earlier, and while she was lucky that no substantial amount of dirt soiled her kimono, that happened.
Now, should she have prepared adequately for this moment, this wouldn’t have been such a problem. However, thinking she would not be outside for very long, she neglected to bring her sewing kit. It was unfortunate! Truly it was! A woman of her standing in a torn kimono would surely be seen as slovenly! She wasn’t inclined to be seen in such a manner, not at all.
She looked around carefully—not frantically as to not show neediness—for some hope out of her situation. It would be a poor idea to allow the rest of the seam to come undone from walking, gods forbid!
Suddenly, her eyes caught onto a shop close by. A tailor shop! Thank heavens!
With a few mindful movements, the young woman marched to the store and pushed the door open.
“Hello?” she greeted, she turned her head and saw another youthful girl sitting, “Good day, miss. Are you in business?” Given the girl's appearance, she was definitely not from Hoshido.
Regardless, the woman bowed gently, however, this action proved too much on the fabric as it stretched, widening the seam.
At the sign of a customer, Lisette perked up, away from her seat. A smile adorned her face as her ears flopped forward. "Oh hello, and y-" Lisette paused and her eyes widened, a more concerned expression made its way onto her face, as her eyes centered on the problem area.
"Oh uh... That's not good, hurry over here!" Lisette said, walking over, and motioning towards a dressing room, in a way to urge the customer on. The Taguel would've just simply tried pulling the other, but such a rash action would not be appropriate, regardless of how much easier it'd be.
"Hurry now, into the dressing room!" Lisette panicked a bit, her smile seemed to twitch, as she peered towards the door, making sure the customer wouldn't be seen. Analyzing the unseamed spot a bit more, it was clear such a thing would be an easy fix for Lisette. A thought lingered in the back of her mind, reminding her she should probably ask for payment before fixing anything but...
Oh-ho? This girl seems to be the reliable type. Of course, for one to be so quick to action is a surprising thing. This was a different culture after all, the woman knew that.
“Oh, young lone, please don’t feel stressed,” said she with a gentle giggle. There was a grand display of clothing of varying kinds within the shop, although she wasn’t sure she could afford any at the moment with what gold she had on hand.
She began to advance slowly to the appointed dressing room, using both her hands to keep the gap from widening. Surely the kimono itself had gotten tighter these days? Hopefully it was the clothing that was shrinking.
When she was finally inside of the dressing room, she removed the obi-jime, loosened the obi, and then pulled the obi-age out from the obi. With another fluid motion, she removed the obi and folded the implements neatly. The kimono robe now free, she simply took it off. The woman was glad that she was not wearing a yukata, otherwise she wouldn’t have the inner robe (nagajuban) to cover her skin.
“There,” she sighed as she held the kimono up. She turned the kimono around to where the seam had opened, and poked her finger through it, “My, my… I wish I hadn’t picked this one to wear today.” She looked at the other and shook her head, “The hole has gotten quite big… it’s almost as if this kimono wishes to rest for eternity.”
The young tailor sighed in relief, somehow her customer managed to be rather agreeable, despite how understandable it would be to be upset right about now. "Alright.." Lisette murmured, as she watched the older lady disappear behind the dressing room curtains. She couldn't help but wonder how the woman was able to be so composed right now...
As she waited for the outfit that ought to be fixed, Lisette paced quietly, within about three steps of ground. her hands clasping and unclasping together and upon seeing the upper layer of the kimono out, she nodded, before grasping it. "Well the wrongs will be righted, no need to worry~!"
"I'll have your kimono all fixed up, and it won't even take ten minutes!" As she said that, she swung herself into her little workstation, and pushing aside what she was working on earlier, she immediately started searching through her thread, for the best possible color.
"Oh and if you'd like any additions, feel free to ask, I can add bows, or lace, or even a flower, as that may more match your taste!"
As the girl took the kimono, the woman proceeded to sit down on a stool.
Just like that, the situation would be rectified. All she had to do was wait a little for the fix and…
Eh? What’s that? Implementations? On a kimono?
Such a strange girl. Perhaps she isn’t used to this type of garment… AH. In that case, would it be a bad idea to leave this in her care? For such a person to handle this… then again, she seems very enthusiastic and capable. She only needs to decline the offer.
“It’s fine, miss,” was the answer, “Most kimonos aren’t bestowed with… ah, special additions.” But she wouldn’t leave it at that! “However, that honor goes to the head. A flower or bow would look more fitting on the hair.”
As soon as she fished through thread, long enough to find the perfect color, the girl began to ready her needle, and hearing the lady mention such a thing she nodded a bit. With a polite voice, she spoke. "Ah, forgive me, I'm not quite sure what I was thinking~!"
Based upon a lot of the clothing within the store, it was clear that when she did create kimonos to sell, they were usually over the top. It actually was fitting in Cyrkensia though, after all, in such an entertainment district, a lot of people wanted outfits that would be showy and over-the-top.
Regardless, Lisette strung the needle in and out, carefully. The job appeared masterful, as she continued along with great care. "Oh by the way, this'll only cost you ten gold~" She said with a lot of cheer to her voice, "Pretty cheap, huh?"
Ten gold? Was she serious? For something as small as this... and to call it cheap, too! Perhaps this wasn't the right place to go, after all... who charges ten gold for any small service?
The woman suppressed a grimace, "... S... surely that is not as cheap as other tailors make it to be..." she wrung her hands gently. This suddenly became a far more delicate situation. She could get a seam repair kit for cheaper! Assuredly, this girl is more cunning than she looks, after all, she has her kimono in her hands already and is about to begin repairing expecting to receive ten gold!
Lisette looked towards the lady in confusion, as she spoke such a thing. "U-Um... I mean... Most tailors would charge at least thirty... Maybe thirty-five gold... You're really getting a steal."
She paused, and smiled awkwardly, "If you aren't interested, I can just pull the thread out, and you could go elsewhere?" Her expression seemed a bit weak, she half expected that this was going to end very poorly for her... And to think, for once the customer seemed actually agreeable.
"I don't really know how to help you, if you aren't able to pay though... So I must apologize." Surely the Hoshido lady, had to be poor, how else could she not afford such a cheap price. If it wasn't within work hours, she'd make a fix like this, for free in a heart beat, but her boss definitely wouldn't want her giving away free service at their place of business.
It was like her boss always said, 'Give one person a free fix, and then they'll all get a free fix.'
The woman bit her lip. This was the cheapest outside of Hoshido, huh... maybe she wasn't charging enough for room and board.
"Wait, wait," she waved her hands in the air, "I... I was being too selfish. I'm sorry. The price is fine. I have enough for it." She folded her arms and sat down on a stool, "Just... um... yes." She pulled her gold purse from within her nagajuban and started counting her coins.
"I'll, erm," she mumbled, "Should I pay now or..."
The Taguel girl sighed a bit in relief, as she nodded. She had quite honestly been terrified that the lady would've shouted at her, after all, that was a common experience.
"Ah, just put it on the counter, and I'll grab it, as soon as I fix this up~!" Lisette quickly continued stitching, already most of the way done, she was a bit relieved at how easy a job she was having right about now.
"Oh, by the way, what brings ya to Cyrkensia, ma'am?" This city was usually filled with tourists, however... Someone who thinks that 10 gold is expensive, clearly hasn't been in the city that long. "I mean, feel free not to answer, but either way, hope you've been enjoying it her!"
Looking up, Lisette flashed a sweet smile, as she started to put the knot into the thread.
Ah, this girl... asking with such presumptions. She isn't wrong, yet her manners fluctuate with her words.
My business is my own! the woman would've said, but this girl was asking a general question. This was something she could easily deflect with the right words, that is, if the girl didn't press for more information--that in itself is close to interrogation.
Nevertheless, her mind is thinking too hard.
"Just a small excursion at the suggestion of a friend," the woman smiled, "'Vacation,' was the word she used."
Was that enough information? Surely now she wouldn't ask for much more. Lisette
"E-excursion...?" Lisette said, with a confused glance, as she cut the end of the thread, and folded up the kimono, nice and neat. She wasn't anywhere near as well learned as the lady from Hoshido, so she struggled a bit to grasp the meaning behind it.
"A-Ah, nevermind! Nevermind!" Lisette glanced over at the counter, yet not seeing the money there, she placed the kimono down. "Just like um, feel free to pay, and you can change in the dressing room, and be on your way!"
Lisette spoke rapidly, as she couldn't help but feel flustered, by such things. "I hope uh, you've been enjoying your vacation!"
With a fluid motion, the woman quickly placed the gold pieces on the counter for the girl to take. Her kimono finished, the deal had been made and their business was finally concluded.
"Very good," the woman smiled. She took her kimono from the counter and proceeded into the changing room to properly tie everything back together. When she was finished, she exited the small room and took one more look at the clothing selection.
Then she looked back at the girl.
"By the way," she said with a smile, "I'm afraid I haven't introduced myself. It's customary for two people to know each other's names before business, but I'll let that slide. I am Watanabe Mai. You may call me Ms. Watanabe." She bowed gently to the girl. "Thank you so much for fixing my kimono. Truly you have helped me today." Lisette
Lisette quietly took the money, and slid over, after the women went to change, to put it into a locked box of sorts.
She made careful sure to lock it tight, and as she heard the lady exit the dressing room, she moved away from such a box. "O-Oh, I'm sorry, it's nice to meet you, Miss Watanabe!" Lisette said, as she perked up, and gave a smile. "I'm really glad I could help you... And oh... Yeah! My name's Lisette, and it's really nice to meet you!"
She seemed too overeager, ah, she needed to stay calm. It was strange to have such a nice customer, but regardless, this wasn't the beginning of a friendship, nor did she believe it was. She didn't understand why she got so like that... But suddenly Lisette settled upon the reasoning that she was still terrified that Miss Watanabe was going to yell at her for some small reason.
