Looking into Tenebres' eyes from his helmet in silence as he listens to their answer, the silence would continue for several more seconds while the knight seems to be studying the elf as if searching for any falsehood in what was said.
Finally Kazmael would let out a very quiet sigh. "I see... Then tell me. Would you still wish to learn under a man that keeps the people of two different nations safe? I have no ties to Nohr or Hoshido, so Iv'e done what I can to protect the innocent's in both from the war and bandits. You however wish to serve just your country though, so learning from me would contradict your values. Then again. Is a country that has influential people not caring about a war and it's citizens even a country?"
Shrugging lightly he'd stab the wooden practice sword still in hand into the ground. "Due to that it would not be good for you to learn from me, or your people may... No, will start calling you a traitor when it is known I help both places. So unless you are willing to accept that responsibility and use your strength to help everyone.. I can not accept your request to train you, Tenebres." Seeming to be finished the Black knight would turn away from the elf but would continue instead of leaving.
"Like I said before to the last question. You don't need to make a decision now. But if you do, then I will leave you to yourself. Or I will train you elsewhere. After all, it would not be good to continue training in a country your teacher and therefore you have no more ties to."
Hearing his gut-wrenching words, the head of the lad sank, his heart sinking even deeper.
… That’s right.
The Black Knight came out of nowhere, sporting no allegiances upon his person whatsoever. Even as he had circled him numerous times during his attacks, he saw no sign of Nohrian symbol upon his person.
He was… neutral. A man who stood for neither country. He would not be tied down here… he will likely travel to Hoshido.
Hoshido.
The very word caused his blood to boil and his body to perspire. To even conceive that this powerful man would even think of helping those fiends…
The words echoed in his mind like a pulsating headache, and his legs collapsed under the mental weight. ”They made your family turn against you, Tenebres. Of course you should hate them. If it weren’t for them, you wouldn’t have had to…”
“But it’s… their… fault…!” he stammered with his voice steadily raising and his eyelids twitching, “It’s… all their fault!” His head suddenly raised to the Black Knight with tears running down his cheeks, “How… how could you help them?! Why?!” Kazmael
At first not turning back as he hears the boy's words, Kazmael would let out a light sigh. "Boy." Speaking that one word in a commanding tone the black knight looks to the elf once more, though this time his gaze seems to feel somewhat painful even though it's still unseen.
"Not everyone on the opposite side of a conflict is evil or guilty of what their country does. In fact, many try to live their usual lives until war or battles are brought to them. Answer me this. Is it wrong to help the ones that are innocent in a conflict? What would you do if you were told to massacre an entire village of farmers that can't even fight back since they don't want to join either side of the war and therefor never prepared for any battles? What would you do if told to burn down an entire building filled with children just cause they were not Nohrian?"
Now speaking with a hint of venom lacing his voice, the previously calm knight continues in a commanding tone. "I have seen and heard of the many things that happen during and after wars. I have seen the results of almost complete genocide of a people just cause they were not human. So tell me.. Since you seem to hate the other side so much, would you follow orders if you were told to kill Norhian people just cause they left the war and wanted to live peacefully? This and the other questions I asked are what you should figure out before you start fully pointing your sword at something Tenebres."
Was there even a question about that? No, of course not! He was a loyal Nohrian to his king! If he gave the order, he would slay hundreds of Nohrians for…
…!
What was that thought just now? Would King Garon order that at all?
No, no, that can’t be. What was he even insinuating, that King Garon would go so far as to… no, if… if they were labelled as traitors… then… then that would be…
Who would label them as traitors? Why? What’s a traitor? Is he wrong? Who is wrong?
If King Garon is a loving king… why… why are there rebels in the first place?
His sweat started pooling the ground around him, and so profuse was the sweat that the dye of his hair ran down his face, revealing his pink Ice Tribe roots.
“… I…” his head sunk deeper, “… I don’t know. I’ve… I’ve never questioned… I only obey. I can only obey.”
“What’s going on here?”
A drunken soldier entered the yard with a hand on his sword with eyes glancing between Tenebres and the Black Knight. “Hey, you, quit feeding a good Nohrian boy nonsense!”Kazmael
For now ignoring the other soldier, Kazmael would place a gauntlet-ed hand on the elf's shoulder before speaking in a softer voice. "A decision is not needed now. Find the answer on your own and do not let anyone tell you what you should think, even me. After all.. Everyone is biased in some way."
Finishing with those words he'd pat their shoulder lightly before finally looking to the other soldier and talking commandingly once more. "I only say what I have learned from experience, boy. Though I have a question for you as well since your here. Do you drink as a means of escape, or are you just blind to how the world is and are pampered by the people around you?" At these words he'd stare them down, right hand on the wooden sword still stabbed into the ground.
"Well it doesn't matter either way to me. Soldiers that don't have their own thoughts and blindly follow another are nothing but children, nay. Babies calling out for and following their parents no matter how good or bad they are treated by them." Stating these words as if they are a fact he'd start to walk off toward one of the training grounds exits. Not seeming to care what the other, drunk soldier thinks.
... Find the answer on my own... don’t let others tell me what I should...
“Oy—hic! I didn’t hear you!” the soldier hiccuped as he watched the Black Knight leave, “Whatever. Yeah, that’s right. Get the hell out of here! We don’t need the likes of you around.” His head turned toward Tenebres, then immediately let out a boisterous laugh, “Hahaha! The famous salmon-head appeared! Get your damn butt off the ground!” He reached out and pulled the profoundly bewildered elf onto his feet by his collar.
Did… King Garon want me to kill my family?
“You let him beat you up, huh, you scumbag?! I knew you were pretty weak, hell, everyone oughta be ashamed of you!” In that instant, he raised his fist and struck Tenebres across the face.
… Or… did they tell me to do it… because they said they were traitors…?
“You and your people are a disgrace to Nohr! One of these days, King Garon will just erase your kind off the map! No one’ll miss you, you know?” He struck the boy again.
… Who are you, King Garon?!
“Are you listening to me, you icicle-bra—?!” As the soldier raised his fist once more, Tenebres swiftly turned his head to dodge his blow, then embedded his knee into the man’s groin. Shortly after, he grabbed the man by his throat and pushed him into the ground.
“Yes, loud and clear,” he responded with certain clarity in his eyes, “And for the time being… I cannot adhere to the words of my superiors.” He released the shocked soldier and hopped over his body, “For now, I will go my own way.”
“Y-you…” the soldier stammered as he pulled himself off the ground, “You’re turning against us, huh?!”
Tenebres stopped in his tracks in quiet consideration, then shook his head. “No… I just need to figure some things out.”
In that instant, the soldier withdrew his sword in an irate manner, “You’re a traitor! YOU’RE A TRAITOOOOR!” He lurched toward Tenebres with his blade raised over his head.Kazmael
Almost as soon as the drunken soldier moves toward Tenebres with the intent to kill them, there would be the sound of metal hitting metal as the raised sword would be grabbed from behind that soldier by the black knight before it is swung. "You didn't even wait for me to leave completely. Are the soldiers here really that lax with secutiry? If so then it's a wonder there's an army... Then again, perhaps the army that's shown is just a front?"
Still holding the blade he would grab the soldier by the back of their neck with his other gauntlet-ed hand and lifts him into the air. "However, that is not important right now. You dishonorably attacking another soldier is a more pressing concern." Pulling the sword out of their grip, Kazmael would then toss the soldier into a barrel filled with more wooden practice weapons causing the container to break and the weapons to go flying a short distance.
"Hmm... Tenebres. It might not be good for you to stay around here for a time. I suggest leaving this city and finding another place to call home, soon if not quickly." Saying this to the elf he'd continue to keep an eye on the soldier he had just tossed in case they would get back up.
“Ah...” Tenebres looked on at the soldier now lying in an unconscious, foaming heap among the dummy weapons, then let out a muffled chuckle, “... Ironic.”
He turned toward the Black Knight with a blank look in his eyes, “... Well, sir, I can no longer stay here because of your intervention, and in spite, I demand compensation.” His eyes flashed with confidence, “Take me as your esquire, Sir Black Knight. It is the least you could do for causing me to question what has been fundamentally implemented.” His latter words were delivered with sharpness, however, he hung his head down, “That... that is to say... I will need your help to figure out things, and if you go without me, I believe that I have no future anywhere.”Kazmael
Seeing that the soldier definitely won't be getting up anytime soon this day. Perhaps the next one if others don't find him later. The knight looks to Tenebres and would seem to contemplate what was asked. "That sounds fair. However, as I already stated. You yourself must learn what you want to do and who you want to follow, if anyone, in the future. I will just be a mentor with his own opinions on things like anyone else."
Gesturing for them to come closer, the knight would open a small pouch on the side of his armor. "I believe it won't be the safest or best course of action if we leave the normal way. I will warn you now that you'll most definitely feel severely drained after this version of transport though. And with your current state you may pass out, though if you don't you won't be able to walk on just willpower alone."
Tenebres hadn’t realized it till now, but his new teacher is a little long-winded.
“Transport?” he furrowed his brow as he approached the Black Knight, “I don’t understand, but I am in your care.” He planted himself next to him and glanced down at the pouch, “Hum... what do you mean by... transport?”
Alas, he only understood that transportation was to take a piece of cargo to another place via cart.Kazmael
Placing a gauntlet-ed hand on the elf's shoulder he'd chuckle very slightly. "I mean exactly as I stated. We will be leaving this place for another." His other gauntlet would reach into the pouch and come back out with a silvery powder held between his fingers. Then seeming to think for a moment he'd throw it at their feet causing a bright light to surround them both...
Whenever they are both able to see again, it'll be noticed that now they are in the midst of some trees a good distance outside the city of Marcarth. "There. We can now travel normally from this point on. But first, how are you feeling Tenebres?" Asking this his gauntlet would still be gripping their shoulder, though the hold would seem to feel a bit weaker than before.
The lad was still, his eyelids broad and pupils contracted. The effect of the warp was immediate, as if an incredibly heavy burden of magnanimous fatigue had been placed on his shoulders. The physical manifestation was so that the lad’s body nearly dropped like a rock, should his sire not have kept him steady.
Worse, his jaw felt slack, hanging by numbed muscle and keeping his mouth ajar, allowing drool to spill onto his coat.
“Abth,” he answered weakly with his tongue hanging slightly from his mouth, “Pllbth.” Nevertheless, he was surprised that he was even able to stay conscious given the fact that the last of his strength was spent that very moment.
Oh. The world’s turning dark. Perhaps I thought of it to-o-o-o... s-o-o-o-o-o...
In that moment, Tenebres’ body leaned against the Black Knight as he succumbed to unconsciousness.Kazmael
"Is that s-... Oh, well nevermind then." Seeing that they have now passed out he'd chuckle lightly and lifts them up to carry Tenebre on his left shoulder before walking somewhat slowly. "This reminds me of when I first started training to withstand the warps. Though I was the one being carried those first few times.."
Saying these last words to himself he'd stay silent for the rest of the time he walks. Once he deems it's safe to do so he would eventually make a fire-less camp several miles away from where they once were to get some rest as well...
