Atsushi craned his neck up to look over Chrim's head. "Īe, I don't see them. With my robe as a hood, you look very dread fighter-like." He turned back around and continued his pace down the forest path.
That said, there was technically no path except that they wound and plowed through foliage. The smell of the hot springs still hung on the air, yet the scent of dense plant life became ever concentrated as they went along. Every now and then, Atsushi would stoop down with a knife to retrieve bamboo shoots from the floor and slip it into his side bag.
"Chrim-san," he said, "I wonder... er, have you ever seen a ninja before?" chrim
"I'll take your word for it." Giving a slight hum in return at the dread fighter comment he'd start following the monk once more.
Chrim would not really do much else other then listen for any possible threats. Course since he is no longer transformed and has his ears covered quite well it's not as easy to anymore. So he'd give a light sigh as he knows this is a necessary thing to do cause of what he is.
Course during their walk Atsushi would ask another question, though this time it's about ninja's? So cocking a brow lightly he'd then give a slight chuckle. "That is a hard question to answer. After-all, if you see a ninja then are they really a ninja?" With that said in a very slight joking manner he'd continue. "I'd have to say yes though. Mainly due to one or two visiting my original home. Usually they did so to bring messages from certain important people that my clan were in contact with and give us items we may need or sometimes even food, I never was told who those important people were though. But then again I never did ask as well." Thinking a bit on that a bit more he'd shrug. "Perhaps we were used as informant's? After all we did live closer to the border than most other kitsune's."

“Ah, so ka,” Atsushi nodded, “I only ask is because... well... because there are rumors that there is a ninja village planted near to Izumo, but those who look for it never find it.” He scratched the back of his head, “Well, it’s not as if I’m going to go looking for it. I wouldn’t want to get tangled up in the affairs of professional assassins.”
However, no sooner had the words fallen from his lips than an uncanny chill filled the atmosphere. The monk gripped his staff a little tighter, his neck dipping between his shoulders as he gave wary glances here and there. “... Etoo... we should get going.”
Even so, it felt as if they were being watched. chrim
"Ah. Is that so? Well as long as we don't cause any reason to make either of us a target. Then we'll be fine...." Nevertheless chrim's hand would move slightly closer to his swords hilt in case these rumors are true. That and the fur on his tail and ears had started to stick up as if saying there might be danger near to them now. Well that and the same feeling of being watched.
Hearing the monks last words chrim would nod. "Of course. Though I am a little curious, how good are you at healing if someone got injured?" Making sure to not move his tail just in case, he would turn his ears slowly so as to not move the robe covering them much to see if he can hear anything nearby, after all his hearing is still decent even with his ears being covered.

“I…” the monk’s voice dropped as he stopped in his tracks, “… Shh.” He held his staff up to his face and let out a long, breathy sigh, steeling himself for a possible struggle.
Eventually, his voice rose as his eyes peered into the shadows of the pole forest. “… There is no use in hiding. Your very presence stifles the air in its bloodlust. Reveal yourself, warrior of shadow, and let there be honor between us.”
Mere seconds after he had spoken, a copper streak of light flew swiftly in their direction. However, in anticipation of the sudden attack, the monk swiftly twisted his staff around and struck the object with a loud “Ha!” The wooden rod was raised, and sticking from the bulbous tip was the unmistakable shape of a bronze kunai. Just then, there was the sound of air rushing above them, and immediately Atsushi dove to push Chrim aside as a shadow descended swiftly from above and crashed into the earth.
“Quick, aren’t you?” A heavily cloaked figure rose from the dust with fists tightly wrapped around knives. A cloth mask concealed the assailant’s face, except for his glaring eyes. “Interesting that you would disguise yourself kitsune, when it would be all for naught.” chrim
Perhaps it was due to them being a ninja. But for once it was a little hard to detect them before the attack started. Though whenever the monk lept to push him aside chrim would instead grab Atsushi as he used his own speed to bring them a bit further away before placing himself between the monk and the ninja.
"That's just how I am. After all several people don't take kindly to us or the other so called 'beast' or 'sub-human' races." Saying that with a slight bit of venom in his voice he'd glare back at the ninja and keeping his hand on his sword hilt he'd continue. "I suppose now there is only one question. Are you foe or a neutral party. If it's the first, then I'll have no choice but to face you all..."

“Oof!” Atsushi recovered his footing as he was pulled by Chrim. “We are not enemies, shinobi! Seize your hostility. I am a simple monk with a fellow traveler, foraging for food in the forest.”
“Is that so?” responded the ninja with uncaring nonchalance, “That matters little to me.” He glanced to chrim with haunting interest, “... As for you, I hear one could make good coin off of your hide. Do me a favor and transform again?”
“What!” Atsushi exclaimed as he raised his staff angrily, “How could you say such a terrible thing?! The words you speak are unexpected for one of your clan!”
“Clan?” the other chuckled with a shrug of his shoulders, his voice leaked malicious intent, “I am my own man, and I kill as I please. Including monks.” He flipped his knife in his hand, “Shame you had to acquaint yourself with something so prized in the underworld.”
Atsushi grit his teeth as his fingers clenched tighter around the neck of his staff, “I have not met any man nor monster vile enough to spout such atrocious utterance like yours!”
"You suggestion has been declined, 'human'." Now glaring at them fully he'd finally pull out his sword but would only hold it in a half ready position as he continues to listen. After a bit he'd then smirk very slightly and would place a hand as if in a calming manner on Atsushi's shoulder.
After doing so he'd speak in an oddly calm sounding tone of voice. "So you are your own man human? And here I was prepared to fight and kill at least three of you if needed." Then grinning at the ninja in a menacing yet still calm way chrim would continue. "Overall it looks like things are not in your favor since kitsune are known for being fast and skilled during fights... Now how do you think one would fight with a sword that has trained with it for around a fourth of their life huma-... No.. Your even more of a beast than some of the more corrupt norhian nobility. So I think beast would match you quite a bit better than human or ninja."
Finally readying his sword completely so as to be able to parry or counter easily he'd sigh lightly. "What I say most likely won't convince you since you've fallen so far... But this will be your last chance to leave without another word, or I will kill you."

“Shut up,” the ninja grunted with a twist of his neck, “You talk more than you’re worth, not like you’re going to convince me or anything.”
“Chrim-kun,” Atsushi murmured, “I may be no good in a fist fight, but by the strength placed in my vessel, I shall keep you healthy.”

The cut was indeed shallow, and the sensation of pain and spilling of blood seemed to excite the shinobi all the more.
“Ahahaha! Good!” he laughed defiantly as he suddenly disappeared from sight. “I love it when my prey struggles for their own survival!”

"Your request is denied." Growling that at them from the pain of the kunai being kicked deeper into him, instead of pulling it out and wasting time Chrim would instead rush and try to stab the ninja in the neck since they are still relatively close.

The pain and their speed made his aim a bit off from his target, but at least he would stab their shoulder in return for their attack. "Atsushi. Chuckling a bit he'd then smile very slightly. "Also I have my own personal reason for fighting beasts like him by myself."

Just as Atsushi prepared to mend Chrim’s wounds, the kitsune’s words stopped him midway. In spite of his desire to assist, the spirit of the fighter’s words had him convinced.
“I understand,” Atsushi responded, yet his grip tightened harder around his staff, and it appeared that the life in his face drained away.
... You say that... but it pains me to be nothing but a bystander...
“Hahaha! That’s right!” their opponent laughed as blood dripped down his arm, “Come then, kitsune!” He reached into his back pocket and appeared to draw something from his pocket, then tilted his head back.

Also it'll be kind of funny to see his reaction when he finds out it's missing if I'm right and this succeeds." Atsushi listened to the kitsune’s plan carefully, yet responded with an incredibly dissatisfied glare, “Chrim-san, even for victory, I will not stoop down to the level of a thief. That is an insult to someone who calls himself a monk.”
“What’re you whispering about over there?” Karma grunted with a roll of his neck as he shook off the damage from the kitsune, “It’s no good if you talk about your plans in front of your enemy’s face.”
The monk glanced to the ninja and gave a gentle grunt before his gaze returned to Chrim. “However, I will not allow this to turn into a battle of attrition.” He reached down to pick up the discarded kunai from the ground, then looked up to the ninja. His posture relaxed as he pressed his staff in the ground as he walked.
If I must intervene... I cannot struggle.
“Ehh?” Karma chuckled with his arms raised in the ready, “Sending your monk forward? Foolish plan.”

The monk walked slowly toward the ninja with a composed expression.
"... Oi-oi..." Karma hissed as his hands tightened, "... What do you think you're..."
There was no response, only the sound of grass being crushed beneath his feet. The bloody kunai was visible in his right hand. Thoughts began to race within Karma's mind.
What is this fool doing? Why does he look so relaxed at a time like this? Wait, he's getting too close?! Is he going to attack me at point blank range?! The fool! There's no way this monk can kill me! Monks are weak! He's--
Atsushi softly bumped against the ninja's blade before glancing up, and in that instant...
His face held a dark toothless smile as the amalgamation of emotions long suppressed by the external world unfurled itself in tormented lust for retribution.
Karma staggered backward in shock, and there was no waste of time. The knife in the monk's hand tore into the rogue's clothes as he stripped away the satchel that held a gourd of restorative fluid. Without a second beat, the container was thrown to the ground and crushed beneath the blunt end of a staff.
"You die today," giggled Atsushi with voice caustic as venom.
The ninja's eyes broadened as he caught his footing and realized what was done. "You... you squirmy little...!!"
